~ An AWOL Academy Review ~
As far as I’m concerned the internet is one of the best things to ever happen, especially when it comes to having opportunities to make money from home. The internet never sleeps and these days we all have access to a global marketplace 24/7/365.
Never before have there been so many opportunities that are so easily accessible.
Unfortunately there are downsides to everything, and one of the internet’s biggest issues is predators, scammers and con artists, all hiding in the cyber shadows waiting to pounce on unsuspecting people and relieve them of their money.
I make it a point to review a lot of make money products, as well as platforms that claim to teach people how to make money online. The reason I do this is so we can all make better choices by learning what’s good, what’s average, and what to avoid all together.
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about AWOL Academy as a great way to make some money, but also others questioning whether it’s a scam or not. Because of this I decided to research it and write a review on what I found out.
It’s great to see you here reading this review. It shows you do your research and are smart enough to avoid the scams. Like I said before, there are a lot of scammers online, and reviews help us sort out the bad stuff and find the good stuff.
Let’s now see if AWOL Academy is really worth your time and money or not.

What Is AWOL Academy?
AWOL Academy was launched in 2015 by online entrepreneurs, Keala Kanae and Kameron George. The letters A.W.O.L represent “Another Way Of Life”. It is based out of Las Vegas.
These two guys also have a couple of similar programs out there called:
- Global Affiliate Zone
- Elite Push
There was a previous version of this money making and training platform prior to the launch of AWOL Academy, and the old version was known as “Project AWOL”. In those days Project AWOL was a part of the now defunct Empower Network, which was a similar type of platform run by David Wood and David Sharpe.
The relationship between Project AWOL and Empower Network was dissolved in 2013 after a dispute between the two operations.
One of the main claims AWOL Academy make is the promise that members can be making $10,000 within 90 days of joining the platform.
That’s quite a big statement to make, but not as unbelievable as those make money schemes that claim you’ll make $20k within the first 24 hours, or something ridiculous like that. At least the AWOL statement is a little more believable and possibly achievable.
As I mentioned, AWOL Academy is both a training platform that teaches members how to make money on the internet. It also offers a way to make money with AWOL itself, by promoting the platform to others.
AWOL Academy is all about affiliate marketing – learning the ropes and earning an income online as an affiliate. There is a lot of training out there that teaches affiliate marketing. Some is pretty average, but AWOL’s training is definitely some of the better training there is on the subject.
I also did some really good affiliate marketing training. Click here to learn more about the blueprint I followed for online success.
How AWOL Academy Works
We’ll get into what training AWOL offers in the next section, but first I just wanted to briefly explain how this platform works.
When you pay for your initial membership you are coming in on the ground level, where you’ll go through training in affiliate marketing, but more specifically, training on how to sell the AWOL Academy to other people.
There is actually quite a bit on offer in the starting package, so you get a lot of information for your initial joining fee of $99.
When you finish one training package, you need to pay money again to advance to the next level of training. There is an option to buy their most expensive package, which gives you access to all of the training.
This saves you close to $6k over purchasing each module individually.
Before paying anything though, you can attend a free webinar that runs you through what AWOL Academy is all about. It’s actually pretty good and not over-hyped like some of these webinars can be.
Essentially AWOL is what’s often referred to in the industry as a “high ticket” program, meaning it’s rather expensive, but members also have the chance to earn very substantial commissions when they sell the platform to others.
You can, of course, apply what you learn to promoting all manner of products and services as an affiliate, but in order to take advantage of any of the AWOL Academy “done for you” systems, these can only be used to promote AWOL to other people, as that’s how they’ve been designed.

AWOL Academy Training
Let’s now take a look at the training on offer. I won’t go into great detail, but I’ll break it down for you so you have an idea.
Pro Academy – $99
This is the membership you get when you first join, and you get quite a bit of value for your money.
Pro Academy is designed with beginners in mind, so you don’t need any prior experience to participate.
When you first join there will be 4 mandatory steps for you to complete:
- Watch a welcome video
- Complete your profile
- Complete all AWOL coaching steps
- Book in for a coaching call
After all this is complete you can then access the 4 training modules that make up Pro Academy.
Module 1 – This contains a series of 6 videos. These videos take you through AWOL Academy, affiliate marketing, how to set up your business, as well as some extra tools and services you’ll need, such as a domain name, web hosting and installing WordPress to start your affiliate site. It’s all about creating your business framework.
Module 2 – There are 12 videos in this module, and much of it is focused on email marketing, setting up autoresponders to automatically send out emails, getting people to join your email list and so on. Again there’ll be some services to buy, which include: GetResponse, ClickMagick and LeadPages.
Module 3 – There are only 3 videos in this third module. Here you’ll learn how to find affiliate products to promote. Along with that, you’ll be learning how to get traffic to your landing pages so you can grow your email list and promote to your list. Their main way of getting traffic is with solo ads, buying space on other marketers’ emails lists.
Module 4 – In these 4 videos you’ll learn more about email marketing with some really good insights, as well as some training on analytics so you can figure out how to get more traffic and better conversion rates from your traffic. You are also walked through budgeting and what you can expect in your first year as an AWOL Academy member and affiliate.
Inbox Academy – $447
The training package is also broken up into 4 modules, which include:
- The Basics
- Email Deliverability
- Open Rates
- Click Through Rates
The training covers setting up email marketing funnels and how to fine tune them to be more effective. It also covers more on getting traffic to build your subscriber list.
This training is quite in-depth and detailed.
Conversion Academy – $1797
As the name suggests, this course is primarily focused on conversions and getting the most out of your promotional efforts and sales funnels. More conversions equals higher profits for you.
Here are the 6 modules in the Conversion Academy:
- Epic Story Telling
- Mind Control Hacks
- Live Sales Formula
- Evergreen Sales Formula
- High Ticket Sales
- Affiliate Tracking
Traffic Academy – $2997
This package is not just about getting more and more traffic, but getting targeted traffic that converts at a higher rate. Much of this course focuses on leveraging Facebook and some other social platforms to get more targeted traffic.
Let’s see what the 5 modules are:
- Facebook Traffic Academy
- YouTube Traffic Formula
- Instagram Traffic Formula
- Bing & Yahoo Traffic
- CPA Traffic Formula
Master’s Academy – $5497
If you’ve done all the previous training up to this point, then it’s assumed you are likely establishing your business and making some money.
This training program is more focused on keeping the right mindset, as well as some accounting advice and some wealth building strategies.
There are 3 sections to this one:
- Mindset Hacks
- Wealth Strategies
- Solopreneur To CEO
This is all about boosting the results you are already achieving and taking things to the next level as far as earnings go.
AWOL Elite – $9997
If you buy this package, you get all the training mentioned above, plus gain access to an exclusive 2 hour weekly webinar and access to their private Facebook group.
As a member of the AWOL Elite, you also get direct access to the owners, Keala and Kameron. You can pick their brains all you like, as well as get them to look over everything you’ve done and help you improve your processes and, most importantly, your income level.
How You Earn With AWOL Academy
Promoting other affiliate programs aside, you can earn really good money by focusing on promoting AWOL Academy.
Now I’m not a member of AWOL, so I don’t claim to know everything about how their payment structure works, but I’ll give you a bit of an overview from what I do know.
Apart from paying for the training modules, if you want to become an AWOL Academy affiliate and earn money by selling AWOL, you have to pay a monthly fee of $39.95 to be eligible. If you don’t pay this fee every month, you can’t earn from AWOL sales.
You stand to earn a 30% commission on every product your referrals purchase. So let’s say you entice someone to join AWOL and the buy the initial membership for $99. You’ll make $30.
If that person then decides to purchase the package that gets them everything, then you stand to make a commission of about $3000 on that sale.
You can even earn small commissions on everything your direct referrals make too, when they start promoting AWOL Academy. That commission is set at 3%.
So as you can see, there is some decent money to be made, but it’s also pretty expensive to buy the AWOL packages, and there are some you’ll need to buy to be eligible to earn on everything that’s on offer.
You don’t have to purchase all their packages to earn on everything (which is what places like MOBE make you do), but there are select training packages you must purchase to be eligible to earn on the entire AWOL suite of training.
One package I know you definitely have to purchase is Traffic Academy.
AWOL Academy is targeted at anyone who wants to start up an online business, particularly affiliate marketing. Both beginners and more experienced marketers alike could benefit from this.
While much of what you learn can be adopted to promoting other affiliate products, the main focus of AWOL and their training is on promoting AWOL Academy to other people.
If you don’t have much money, then this isn’t for you. You really need a bankroll to fully participate in AWOL, and the ability to sell high ticket products.
What I Like
- The owners have many years of experience in the business, both with their own products, and a number of successful years over at Empower Network
- The initial training you get for your joining fee of $99 actually covers quite a lot of material
- While focused on promoting AWOL for the most part, what you learn here can be used to help you promote anything you desire as an affiliate marketer
- Unlike some other high ticket platforms, you don’t have to buy everything to be eligible to earn on everything AWOL has to offer
- The training is very thorough and detailed, and you also get in-depth coaching depending on which training packages you buy into
- You can potentially earn very big commissions
- They have a 2 tier earning structure where you can also earn small percentages on the sales your direct referrals make
- They have a positive rating on the BBB website
- 14 day money back guarantee
What I Don’t Like and Red Flags
- You have to pay a monthly fee on top of any training costs to be eligible to earn as an AWOL Academy affiliate
- The training packages are very expensive
- Most of the focus is on promoting AWOL to others
- Overall it’s very expensive and likely out of reach for most people wanting to get started earning online as affiliate marketers
- Much of the focus on getting traffic is paid traffic, so you’ll need money for that as well
- Apart from paying for the AWOL training, there are other expenses for other external services as well, which we’ll cover below
How Much Does AWOL Academy Cost To Join?
First, let’s summarise the costs for the AWOL Academy training packages:
- Pro Academy = $99
- Inbox Academy = $447
- Conversion Academy = $1797
- Traffic Academy = $2997
- Master’s Academy = $5497
- AWOL Elite = $9997
Along with those prices, if you want to be an AWOL Academy affiliate, you must also pay a monthly fee of $39.95.
Now, the big push is to use solo ads to drive traffic, along with things like CPA and Facebook promotions. Solo ads cost anywhere from 50 cents to $1 or more per click when you rent someone’s email list.
Who knows how much you’ll spend on solo ads before your list is large enough to make your business profitable. Likely you’ll spend at least a few thousand dollars just on solo ads alone.
There are still more things to pay for yet. External services to help you establish your business. Let’s go over them:
- Domain Name = Anywhere from around $3.99 up to $19.99 for one year
- Web Hosting = Starting at $3.95 (Bluehost)
- LeadPages = $48/Month Minimum
- GetResponse = $15/Month Minimum
- ClickMagick = $12/Month Minimum
As you can see, the costs are really starting to add up. There is a lot of expense attached to the AWOL Academy business model.
Is AWOL Academy a Scam Or Legit?
No, I don’t see any scam with this one whatsoever.
I’m not generally a fan of high ticket programs, but the training and the way AWOL Academy is set up is really very good.
Plus, you don’t only learn how to promote AWOL, but other affiliate programs outside of AWOL as well.
There is a lot on offer here, but not really suited to anyone who doesn’t have a stack of cash to invest into it. In my experience the majority of people looking to do something online to make money don't have a lot of cash to burn trying something out, so that goes against AWOL to a fair degree.
If it was a little bit more affordable I would have rated this higher. I just think the prices are out of reach for a lot of people wanting to get started making money online. Not the initial membership fee, but definitely some of the more top end training.
Overall, very good platform, but if you are on a tighter budget, then read below.
Copy How I Make Money Online
AWOL Academy is very good, but it’s expensive. You can achieve similar results at a much cheaper price. That’s just my opinion anyway.
I do affiliate marketing for a living and so do many millions of other people all around the world. Getting started, up and running and earning really isn’t that hard if you follow a proven training blueprint that leads to success.
Some people just want to make a little bit of extra money online. Others aspire to quit their day job, fire their boss and work their own gig from home. Stills others want to chase the big money and live life abundantly.
Well, affiliate marketing can fulfil all of these dreams and ideals. And the reason it can is because there is no limit on how much you can potentially earn.
When you do an online gig like affiliate marketing, what happens is you start to create more and more passive and residual income streams. Not only does this offer you more in the way of financial security, but it also leads to lifestyle freedom as well, where you have both time AND money.
You can’t achieve that with a job, where you’re trading your time for dollars constantly.
So many people want that kind of freedom, but you have to go after it and do something that can create it. That’s one of the things I love about affiliate marketing. It’s given me the freedom lifestyle I’ve always wanted.
Another thing to point out is you don’t need capital to get started, and you can even run your online gig on a shoestring budget if you want to.
If you have a few minutes spare, I invite you to click on the banner below and have a read of my complimentary make money online guide.
I wrote this guide to help people out and get started. It explains how the simple process of affiliate marketing works, the ways you make money with it, and covers just a few of the many benefits of having your own home online business.
Along with all that I introduce you to some really great training I recommend. It’s the training I did that led to my own success online. It worked for me and it can work for you too. No credit cards are required to sign up as joining is FREE!

The program does seem to be legit but I am not really a fan of any program with upsells, besides those upsells are crazy expensive. For a beginner one might not want to go through that route because it really is a lot of money and I think it should be for someone that has some level of experience in the online world.
December 6, 2018 @ 3:52 AM
Hi Jay, Yes, it is expensive. AWOL Academy is pretty good and a lot of people like it, but you definitely need some cash to start with to have a chance of making it pay off. I'm not normally a fan of high ticket schemes, but AWOL is definitely one of the better ones I've come across. Having said that though, I always recommend people join Wealthy Affiliate if they want to learn how to make great money online for a fraction of the cost of AWOL. Plus, WA has no upsells.

Darren this is a great review of AWOL Academy. You’ve offered a truly detailed look at the costs of joining AWOL and what one gets for their dollars. Like you, I’ve never been a big fan of “high ticket” programs like this, especially when I know from personal experience, like you, that one can learn what one needs to make money online for far less of an investment. But I’m sure there are those convinced they can’t be Big Successes unless they spend Big Money first, so this program would undoubtedly make them feel like Big Fish! lol
It’s good to know the training is legitimate, that this is not a scam, but those costs…wow! Honestly, even if I had a big enough bankroll to consider a program like this, I think that added monthly $39.95 would be the turn-off for me. Considering the price they charge for everything else required just so you can take a 30% commission off their grand earnings (not to mention all the added out-of-pocket costs for domains, hosting, ads, etc.), that monthly fee just screams “greed” to me because, all it does, in reality, is dig into your monthly earnings.
Although I have a hard time understanding why anyone would join programs like this, I do think you’ve offered sound insights for those to whom the AWOL Academy is appealing. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for your great comment on my AWOL Academy review, Cheri. I always love reading the thoughts and opinions of others, as well as their experiences.
I’m not usually a fan at all of high ticket programs, but AWOL does offer a lot of good stuf. It’s just expensive and that’s what puts me off it. I do know of some people who do really well with it, but there is a certain skill and mindset required to be able to sell high ticket schemes and products to others.
I much prefer the Wealthy Affiliate way of training.
December 26, 2018 @ 9:48 AM
Thank you for such an in-depth view of AWOL academy. Even though it sounds like they offer a good training program there is no way I could fork out over $6000 for the training.
It may be a good option for people coming from high-paying jobs who are looking to change their work/life balance though.
December 27, 2018 @ 7:01 PM
Yes, you’re right, it is a big ask handing over that kind of cash for some affiliate marketing training. I do like some of what’s on offer over at AWOL, but I don’t like the way you have to pay for all the training modules separately.
If you’re cashed up and looking for a scheme where you can earn big commissions by selling it to others, then maybe AWOL is a good option. There are far cheaper alternatives though, if training is the major factor and not so much earning on the affiliate side of the training.
January 1, 2019 @ 9:55 AM
Thanks much for your review on the AWOL program. It sounds like it’s not necessarily a scam, but it is super expensive. I’m a bit skeptical of programs that ask for that much money up front before you’ve started really benefitting from what they’re offering. But then again, we do kind of do the same thing when we buy airline tickets, don’t we? Pay a fortune and expect they work as advertised. Thanks for the honest write up. In your experience, does AWOL offer specific information that you can’t find cheaper somewhere else?
January 1, 2019 @ 8:15 PM
Thanks for stopping by. AWOL is pretty good overall, but they do charge you more and more money every step of the way, so it gets very expensive to do all of their training. I don’t think there’s anything on the platform that you can learn cheaper elsewhere.
