Is BeFrugal a scam in any way or a legitimate online cashback platform? It’s a fair enough question, and while there are other BeFrugal reviews around, in mine I’ll be answering that question and more, so we can decide whether BeFrugal is a good option to make some money.

There are all sorts of ways to make some sort of money online, whether it’s a few dollars here and there, or something more long term and significant. Plus, the internet is happening 24/7/365, so it’s little wonder so many people are seeking new options online.

When the BeFrugal cashback platform came onto my radar recently, and I heard people asking questions about it, I wanted to research it for myself and write a review on it.

What Is BeFrugal About?
BeFrugal is a cashback site that has partnered up with over 5000 retailers, and it’s the company’s aim to help you save as much money on your online purchases as possible. On their website they state that you “get paid to shop”, and also make the following statements:
- Highest cashback rates guaranteed
- Exclusive coupons and hand picked deals
- Always 100% free to participate
BeFrugal says shoppers can get as much as 40% cashback on the purchase price of some items, which is really quite high. To be honest though, most of your discounts will likely be around the 5% mark on average.
Although the concept of the BeFrugal website really isn’t anything new in the modern era, it is one of the most favoured and respected cashback sites on the internet. It’s been going strong since 2009 and originally started out as simply a coupon site.
These days they offer loads of cashback opportunities through their 5000 retail partners, as well as stacks of discount shopping coupons.
The site looks like a shopper’s paradise, and if you do a lot of online shopping, then it might be something that’ll really suit you.
Another good one that I recently came across is an app called “Paribus".
If you are looking online for a way to make some really good cash, then you won’t do it with BeFrugal or any other cashback platform.

How BeFrugal Really Works
It’s completely free to become a member of the BeFrugal cashback shopping platform. In fact, they even give you a bonus $10 the moment you join, which is a pretty good start.
I mentioned earlier that sometimes you can earn up to as much as 40% cashback on certain purchases, but if you look at the examples on the BeFrugal homepage, you’ll see the cashback rates are only 1% to 10% (as at the time of this writing).
In order to take advantage of the BeFrugal cashback offers, you have to shop on one of their partnered stores using the BeFrugal toolbar. Once you add an item to your shopping cart, your cashback will be calculated, and will either be subtracted from your item at time of purchase, or be credited to your BeFrugal account up to 60 days later.
It all depends on the deal at the time, when you will receive your cashback. BeFrugal doesn’t have control of the individual stores and their policies, and that’s why the timeframe of when you get the cashback varies.

Using the BeFrugal toolbar, you can search for the kind of store or items you are looking for. When you click on a store and an item you’re interested in, the amount (percentage) of cashback available on the item will be clearly displayed.
When it comes to the coupons, these are printable and can be used in stores and restaurants offline to get discounts off all sorts of things. Many of the coupons seem to be deals on food, with fast food outlets being pretty popular.
There are literally 1000s of coupons available at any given time on the BeFrugal site, so you’re bound to find one you’re looking for.
To be honest, BeFrugal appears to have the most number of cashback and discount deals I’ve ever seen available on one platform.
How Much Money Can You Make?
This is more about getting discounts on your shopping and dining, either through cashback or with discount coupons. However, you can redeem your cashback earned for real cash.
They say you can get as much as 40% cashback, and sometimes you will, but from all accounts the average seems to be more like about 5%. Often you’ll get offered 10%, which is not too bad a rate.
The amount of money you can earn back with this site really depends on how expensive the purchases are you make and the cashback rate.
Obviously 10% on a $10 purchase is a lot less cashback than 10% on a $1000 purchase.
The coupons are a little different, because you’re just printing them out, then physically taking them into stores for an immediate discount off the purchase price. Some of these are pretty good deals and can be around 20% discount and even up to half price.

Getting Paid
In order to claim your cashback and receive a payout, your account must have cleared at least $25 in funds. Some deals can take up to 60 days before the cashback is added to your BeFrugal account.
Once you have a cleared balance of at least $25, you can put in a cash out request and receive your money via the following methods:
- PayPal
- Amazon Gift Cards
- Direct Deposit
- Check

Let’s very quickly look at some of the key features of the BeFrugal platform in list form:

- The Drive and Fly Calculator enables you to work out whether it’s more cost effective to fly or drive to a particular destination
- CouponoMatic automatically applies relevant discount coupons to your online purchases
The BeFrugal Referral Program
Many of these types of sites have referral programs, so members will be motivated to help grow the platform’s membership base through recruitment.
How it works is this. When you refer a new member to BeFrugal through your unique referral link, once they’ve earned their first $10 in cashback, your account will be credited with a bonus $10 for referring them.
It’s not a lot of money, and there are no recurring commissions, but at least it’s something extra.
Target Market
The obvious target market here is online shoppers, and the more actively you shop online, the more valuable this website will prove to be.
Apart from that, with their masses of discount coupons that can be used at offline stores and food outlets, there’s really something for everyone on BeFrugal.
Even though the site is based in the US, people from outside the US can take advantage of some of the online cashback offers, just so long as they’re willing to receive their cashback payments via PayPal.

What I Don’t Like and Red Flags
- You need to reach $25 in cashback before you can request a payout, and with a 60 day wait with most retailers, this can take a while
- Not all products at every retailer are eligible for cashback offers
How Much Does BeFrugal Cost To Join?
You don’t have to pay a cent to become an active member on BeFrugal and start enjoying some savings. In fact, they pay you a $10 bonus just for signing up.
That’s a pretty good deal.
Of course, you’ll be spending money shopping online, or taking advantage of the coupons, but you would be doing that anyway.
Is BeFrugal a Scam Or Legit?
BeFrugal is definitely NOT a scam in any way, shape or form. It’s a totally legit cashback and discount coupon site that has been running successfully since 2009.
In fact, it’s one of the very best ones I’ve come across so far, and well worth joining up with if you indulge in regular online shopping.
Who doesn’t like some bargains when browsing the net for some new items?
It’s a thumbs up from me.

This Is Way Better Than Getting Cashback!
Getting some cashback on your shopping is always going to be a cool idea, but if you really want to make some money online, think about giving what I do a try. It’s also shopping related.
