Slicethepie is a scam or isn’t it? That’s the question many people have been asking about this review website. I got curious and took a look for myself, to determine whether this is a worthwhile way to make money online or not.
So let’s take a better look at Slice the Pie and learn the truth about this platform…

~ Slicethepie Reviews ~
What I really love about the internet, from a money making perspective, is it’s happening 24/7/365. Because it gives us online entrepreneurs access to a global audience, it really never actually sleeps. The world has never been like this before, with so many opportunities to make money online from home.
While there are loads of positives, nothing is without its negatives as well. The major problem with the cyber world when it comes to searching for ways to make some cash, is all the scammers and con artists out there that are targeting people looking to make money.
I saw a lot of talk of late about a platform called Slice the Pie. At first I thought it was another survey site, but soon learned it was a little bit different. I decided to write a review on what I discovered after doing some research into it.
My website Laptop Freedom Living is all about helping people find legitimate ways to make money, especially online. To help both myself and my readers make good choices, I focus a lot of attention on writing reviews of make money online (MMO) products, along with any platforms that say they teach people how to make money.
Like I mentioned before, there are a lot of scams online mixed in amongst the good stuff. Reviews help us all to recognise what’s good and what to avoid.
I’m glad to see you here reading my review. It demonstrates a mindset of wisdom, where you’re willing to do some research before joining anything and handing your money over. Likely you will never fall for a scam that way.
Let’s now see if Slice the Pie is really worth bothering with or not.

What Is Slice the Pie About?
Slice the Pie was founded by a guy named David Courtier-Dutton back in 2007, so the platform has been around for a while now in internet terms. It’s also free to join and has been established as a way to make small amounts of money online by writing mini reviews.
Like I said in the intro, at first I thought this was going to be yet another paid survey site, as there are so many of those around these days, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover it wasn’t about filling out surveys for market research at all.
What you do on Slicethepie is write mini reviews of music tracks primarily, as well as other physical products.
So on one hand it’s offering your opinion on music (and we all love music in one form or another), as well as being a product reviewer.
Much of the platform is focused on unsigned musical artists posting their work to get important feedback on their music so they can improve, as well as much needed exposure. It’s your job as a Slice the Pie reviewer to listen to these new tracks and offer your opinion in the form of a short review.
As a Slice the Pie member who writes reviews, you’ll be called a “scout”. I guess that’s kind of like being a talent scout. Every time you offer your honest opinion of the music (or product) in the form of a mini review, you’ll earn a small amount of money for your opinion and time.
Since starting out as a website where people solely review music, Slice the Pie has more recently expanded its services and geographic area to team up with fashion retailers in both the United Kingdom and the United States. This is where participants of the platform can review physical products in addition to the music tracks.
Along with music and fashion retailers, there is also a selection of other topics that you can choose to write reviews on and earn cash.
Although this doesn’t really pay any more than what you might earn by doing paid surveys, at least it’s a little more interesting than just answering endless questions on topics you may not be the slightest bit interested in.
To earn some real money online, you won’t make it on sites like Slice the Pie or paid survey sites. Instead, try your hand at affiliate marketing. It’s what I do to make more than a fulltime living online.

How Slicethepie Really Works
We’ve basically touched on what this platform is, so now let’s dig a little deeper into how it works.
First of all you’ll need to create a free account with Slicethepie. It only takes a minute or two to fill out some basic information, agree to their terms and conditions and become a member of their community.
Now you can explore the site and start earning by writing your mini reviews.
At the time of writing this review there are currently 4 categories you can write reviews in. These include the following:
- Mobile phones
- Homeware items
On occasion you’ll see the word “Bonus” beneath a particular category. This means that for the bonus period, you stand to earn more for reviews in that category than you would normally earn.
There is even a “lucky dip” category you can select, where you’ll randomly be given a topic to write your review on.
This is how the review process works if you decide to review a music track:
- You must listen to at least 90 seconds of the song
- Now you offer constructive feedback on what you’ve heard. This allows the songwriters and performers to improve on things like lyrics, melody, vocals, the music and production
- Your review must be at least 60 words long
- Now give the song a rating between 1 and 10, with 10 being the best
- Submit the review and receive the rewards for the task in your account balance
When it comes to reviewing music tracks, the name of both the song as well as the artist will not be revealed until you have submitted your review. This is to ensure there is no bias when offering your opinion.
The platform is strict on review quality and making sure reviews are all unique, so there’s no skimping on quality or trying to cheat the system to shortcut the time it takes to earn money.
You also can’t write heaps of reviews in a short space of time. The platform won’t allow this to happen.
How Much Can You Earn?
How much you can earn for writing reviews in any of the categories depends on your own member star rating. This rating increases as you write more reviews that are deemed to be of a high quality.
Everyone starts out low, but builds their star rating over time, so long as the quality is there.
So I can’t categorically give you a set amount that’ll you’ll earn for writing mini reviews on Slicethepie, because it depends both on your member rating as well as the category within which you are writing a review.
As an example of how much you can earn (or how little you can earn, depending on how you look at it), when you first start out writing reviews for music tracks, you’ll only earn 1 or 2 cents per review.
To put that into more perspective, you’ll spend at leats 90 seconds listening to the music, then you’ll evaluate what you’ve heard and then spend at least a few minutes or more writing at least 60 words for your review.
Overall the process will likely take as long as 10 minutes, meaning even at 2 cents a review (as a beginner on the platform), you’ll be making 12 cents per hour at the most. Even if you could do everything super fast, the process will at least take about 5 minutes, so that would still only be 24 cents per hour.
In comparison, paid surveys average out to around $3 per hour, so a massive price difference. Personally I wouldn’t bother doing anything online for the amount of money Slice the Pie is willing to pay.
I won’t even bother with paid surveys any more.
Once your star rating is considerably higher, you’ll get about 5 cents per music review, so you might make 30 cents to 60 cents an hour when you’re a platform veteran.
Very generous pay rates, I must say (sarcasm intended).
When it comes to reviewing things that are physical products like fashion, you won’t be given the actual item. Instead you’ll base your review on photos of the item, along with the product description.
Fashion reviews pay considerably higher than music reviews, with the starting rewards being 10 cents to 20 cents per review. So maybe you might earn a little over $1 or $2 per hour focusing on fashion reviews.
To be totally honest, the amount you can earn on this site isn’t even as high as the lowest rate of pay in most third world countries. It really is an absolute joke and waste of valuable time in my opinion, if the goal is to actually make money and not just f**k around.
In order to request a cash out from the Slice the Pie company, you need to reach the threshold minimum of $10 in earnings. Payments are made to your PayPal account and take about a week.
The Slice the Pie Referral Program
As a member of the Slice the Pie club, you’ll be given your very own unique code or referral link. You can use this code to promote Slicethepie to others on social media and so on. When new members sign up reciting your code, you’ll earn small commissions.
So how much do you stand to earn from referring others to the platform?
Whatever your referral earns for an entire year on Slice the Pie, you’ll be paid 10% of that amount. If your referral earns $100, you’ll make $10.
If you can refer hundreds of new members, then maybe, just maybe, this might all add up to something useful.
Or maybe you might need more than that, as at the base level, earning 10% of 1 cent isn’t going to amount to much very quickly.
This is targeted at anyone looking for ways to make small amounts of income as a side hustle, or even people who might be looking for alternatives to the drudgery of doing paid surveys, or the inane idea of performing menial tasks on rewards sites.
The real downside to the Slice the Pie platform is the miniscule amount of money they pay their members for reviewing music tracks and so on. It’s some of the smallest pay I’ve seen for anything online to date.
What I Like
- It’s free to join and participate
- It’s something different to rewards sites and doing paid surveys
- Everyone loves music in some form, which is the main focus of Slice the Pie
- You get paid real money via PayPal
- There is a referral program
- Only mini reviews of 60 words or more are required
- You might find some new music you like
What I Don’t Like and Red Flags
- The amount this platform pays you for your time is nothing short of an embarrassment
- You’ll be lucky to earn as high as $1 per hour even once you’re considered and expert on the site who always provides quality reviews
- Very strict review censorship and quality requirements
- This is likely the worst exchange of time for money I’ve ever seen on the internet
- You have no way of truly knowing how much your review will actually earn you until you write it, submit it and have it approved
How Much Does Slicethepie Cost To Join?
It’s completely free to join Slice the Pie. After all, you wouldn’t want to have to pay a membership fee for the privilege of spending copious amounts on time writing reviews on the site only to earn pennies.
Is Slicethepie a Scam Or Legit?
I quite liked a lot about this site, but I was very harsh in my rating because this platform is equally as harsh in how they reward their members, which is super poorly.
I like the fact that all you have to do is write mini reviews, and the major focus on music especially is pretty cool.
I guess it all depends on what you’re looking for whether you should really bother with a site like this or not. If you are just looking for something to do, discover a bit of new music maybe, and are happy earning a few coins for your time in the process, then Slice the Pie might seem okay.
On the other hand, if you’re more serious about making money online, then don’t waste your valuable time on this. Time you can never get back.
Go after something that can make your dreams a reality.

Make REAL Money Online Just Like I Do!
Okay, so maybe you’ll make a small amount of cash writing mini reviews for Slicethepie, but is it really worthwhile if your goal is to make some decent money?
I think not.
I mean, if you want to spend your time writing product reviews, you’ll make bucket loads more cash if you do what I do, and start a very simple affiliate marketing business.
Along with multiple millions of others, I make money every single day from my online gig. It’s pretty easy to get started and earning when you follow a proven training blueprint.
It doesn’t really matter what you want to achieve financially and time wise, because it’s all possible with an online business like affiliate marketing. Do it part-time for extra money, or make a fulltime income earner out of it. Some marketers even go on to find ways of creating wealth from affiliate marketing.
The simple reason why all this is possible is because you’re not simply trading time for money, like with most jobs. Instead, there is no limit on how much you might be able to earn.
Along with no ceiling on income potential, you’ll naturally start to build multiple sources of both passive and residual income. This gives you financial security as well as achieving the kind of lifestyle that only money AND time can give you.
A lot of people will say they want the freedom lifestyle, but you have to be willing to do something that leads to that, and an online affiliate marketing gig can definitely make it a reality.
I know this because I’m living that kind of life right now!
Another important point to consider is you need no bank roll to get started, and you can run your online business on a shoestring if you want to.
To help out I’ve written a complimentary guide to making money online. You can read it by clicking the banner down below. It only takes a few minutes and is well worth a look.
Within the guide I’ve written I offer a simple explanation of just how affiliate marketing works, along with a synopsis of how you make money with it and the advantages to running your very own online gig from the comfort of home.
About halfway through the guide I talk about some really good and easy to do training that I really recommend. I did this training too, so I know how well it works when you follow it. No need to get your credit card out either, as you can join and get started for FREE!
