Is Microsoft Rewards a Scam? I’m aware there are loads of rewards sites online, but does THE Microsoft really have their very own rewards platform? These are questions being asked, so I wanted to look deeper into this and see what it’s all about.

Very recently I kept seeing chatter about Microsoft and some rewards program, so I really wanted to check it out and write a review on what I discovered about it.

What Is Microsoft Rewards About?
The internet is full of websites that offer members small rewards for doing everyday tasks. These sites are often referred to as GPT sites (get paid to).
So what’s the deal with Microsoft Rewards then? Is it a rewards site using the Microsoft name? Or is it the Microsoft Corporation offering everyday users rewards for using their products?
Well, this rewards scheme actually is run by the real Microsoft Corporation. It used to be known as “Bing Rewards”, but has changed its name since being revamped.
There isn’t really much to do as a participant of Microsoft Rewards, unlike other rewards platforms like Swagbucks or SendEarnings. Instead, the idea is to earn rewards points for stuff you already do on Microsoft platforms.
The reason they’ve likely created this rewards program is to keep their customers coming back rather than losing them to competitors, which is not a bad idea.
No matter what rewards platform you might join – Microsoft Rewards or some other one – you won’t be making much money. These sites just day pay very much for your time.

How Does Microsoft Rewards Really Work?
Just because you may already use a number of Microsoft products, that doesn’t mean you’re automatically signed up for their rewards program. You actually have to officially join.
There are a number of ways you can build up rewards points with Microsoft Rewards when you are in, but there are 2 major ways, and they are:
- By using the Bing search engine
- By installing and using the Microsoft Edge web browser
Using Bing
There are 2 levels when you’re earning by using Bing: Levels 1 & 2. All new members start off on Level 1.
Every time you use Bing when on the 1st level, you’ll earn 5 rewards points, and you can earn a maximum of 50 points per day. So that means you get “paid” for your first 10 searches of the day, but not for any after that.
When you advance to Level 2 after earning a grand total of 500 points on Level 1, things go up a notch. To maintain your Level 2 status you have to earn at least 500 points a month. You still only earn 5 points per search, but the daily cap is raised to a maximum of 250 rewards points.
Microsoft Edge
All you need to do here is install the Microsoft Edge browser and use it.
For every hour you use the browser for you’ll earn 5 points. There is a monthly cap of 150 points. Every now and then there’ll be a special deal where you can make more per hour and per month.
No matter what level you’re on with Bing, 1 or 2, it doesn’t affect anything when you’re using Microsoft Edge.
For this to register and earn you points, you have to be logged into your Microsoft account when you’re using Edge, and you can just open it up, then go and do whatever it is you do on some other browser and have Edge running in the background. It has to be open and in view on your computer screen.
Other Ways To Earn Points
As I said, using both Bing for searches and Microsoft Edge for browsing the internet are the two main ways to earn rewards points.
You can earn additional points by shopping at either the Microsoft Store or the Windows Store.
How Much Can You Earn?
This is the bottom line, isn’t it? What can you earn with Microsoft Rewards and what do the rewards actually get you in the end?
First, let’s break down some stats.
Let’s say you’re just using Bing and Edge and not bothered with shopping on Microsoft-owned online stores. How many rewards points can you accumulate per month?
The maximum you can earn on Bing if you are at Level 2 is 7500 points a month (for 30 days), and the maximum you can earn per month for using Edge is 150 points.
So that comes to a total of 7650 points per month, based on a 30 day month.
So what are the points actually worth in dollar value?
This is the bad news. You need 5000 rewards points to make the equivalent of just $5. So you can really only make $7.65 per month in a monetary value.

What Can You Get With Your Points?
There’s no cash option, so forget about actually getting paid some money here.
Instead, it’s all about using your points on Microsoft products, or getting gift cards to purchase other products. There are also sweepstakes you can enter to have a chance of winning some really cool prizes.
Here’s a bit of a catch though. Even though 5000 points equals $5, in order to redeem your points for a $5 gift card, it actually costs you 5250 rewards points, like there’s a 250 point redemption fee.
Anyway, let’s look at some of the things you can use your Microsoft Rewards points for:

- Windows Gift Cards
- Skype Credit
- Xbox Live
- Burger King eGift Cards
- Toy ‘R’ Us Gift Cards
- Cinema
- Target Gift Cards

As you can see, there are a lot of options, and popular options too. It’s not all boring and useless stuff by any means.
Target Market
Many of us use Microsoft products to some degree, but even if you don’t, it doesn’t hurt to use Bing as a search engine instead of Google. Or, you could still use Google if you prefer it, but also do searches on Bing just to get points.
This is really aimed at anyone who wants to make something from stuff they are probably doing anyway. If you like Microsoft Edge and Bing, then you’re all set. Might as well get a few bonuses for using these products.
Maybe every few months you can treat you and a friend to a Burger King meal, or watch a couple of free movies or something.

- People use browsers and search engines daily, so why not get something for it?
- All the options for gift cards are pretty good
What I Don’t Like and Red Flags
- You don’t earn very much per month
- It may take 2 or 3 months to make enough points to get something you want
How Much Does It Cost To Join Microsoft Rewards?
You don’t have to pay anything to become a member of Microsoft Rewards. It’s completely free. However, you aren’t automatically in the rewards program just because you use Bing or something. You actually have to sign up and join.
Is Microsoft Rewards a Scam or Legit?
This is totally legit and run by the actual Microsoft Corporation.
It’s actually quite a good idea by Microsoft. They’ve noticed the popularity of rewards sites and decided to cash in on it for customer retention purposes.
To earn with this is pretty easy really, just use Bing for 10 searches a day and download and use the Edge browser for one hour a day and you’re all set for the month.
You won’t earn much, but you’ll earn something; and you don’t have to do anything extra special to make rewards points either. I mean, we all use browsers to access the net and we all conduct internet searches, so nothing to lose really.

Things like earning some small rewards and doing simple surveys and stuff are okay, but if your aim is to make a decent online income, then you’ll need something way better.
